The new physics of product
The rules of product just changed
For more than a decade, I’ve seen product management anchored in a simple operating model: form a hypothesis, run the experiment, measure the outcome, and iterate. It worked because the systems we were building were largely deterministic. But AI has changed that assumption.
When you ask a probabilistic system to maximize something like “delight,” you’re influencing a range of possible behaviors. That requires you to think differently about your role. The PM role is moving closer to the builder, and at the same time, traditional metrics are becoming less reliable indicators of long-term advantage.
AI-native companies understand this intuitively. They are rebuilding the operating model itself, which raises the baseline for everyone else. The leaders who win in this cycle will be the ones thinking in terms of governing probabilistic systems at scale.
I unpack these dynamics in a recent episode of The Scaling CEO. Listen to the full conversation here. And if this resonates with what you’re seeing, share it with a product leader in your network and compare notes.
