The key success factor for product leaders is generating results.
The product leaders I see making the biggest impact are the ones who take business outcomes seriously. They are laser-focused on developing a great product and helping their organization grow. Take, for example, Wind River President Avijit Sinha and Okta President Shiven Ramji. In addition to being members of Products That Count’s Board of Directors, both of them were recently promoted from CPO to President at their organizations. These promotions signal that Fortune 500 companies want results-driven product leaders at the helm of their businesses globally.
No matter your position in product management, there are key lessons here. If you are in an entry-level position with goals to move up eventually into product leadership roles, find ways to increase revenue, reduce costs, and enhance productivity as you develop revolutionary products.
This will put your product career in overdrive.
Focus on the results. Demonstrate how your roadmap can deliver tangible business outcomes. And one day, you might just find your name listed as a Chief Product Officer – or even President of a major global brand.
